From listening to residents across the constituency, I know reform of the system of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is a topic that really matters. And as your Member of Parliament, that means it matters to me.
So many families of children with SEND have told me that they have really struggled to get the support they need. I’ve heard from many about the difficulties faced and the feeling so many people share, that they have been set up to fail by a system that – to put it bluntly – is in crisis.
This Labour government is investing £3.7 billion to create specialist, calm learning spaces in mainstream schools, equipped with facilities to support children with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as more specialist places across early years, schools and colleges.
The government are now consulting on these plans – and I want your help ensure we get this right. Please register on Eventbrite to join me online on Monday 20 April to shape the response I make on behalf of local residents.
